Hiker Recovering After Helicopter Rescue

POSTED: 7:19 am PDT June 29, 2009

A hiker is recovering from heat exhaustion Monday after a helicopter plucked him off a trail that leads to Cedar Creek Falls in Ramona, authorities said.

Two sheriff's helicopters were sent to the area after a 911 call about the hiker was received around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Cpl. Tony Webber.

The first helicopter to arrive had to land several hundred yards away, and paramedics hiked to make their way to the victim, Webber said.

A second helicopter, this one equipped to hoist the victim, was then called in, according to Webber.
