I-Team Reveals County's Top Earners

UPDATED: 11:44 pm PDT June 26, 2009

County workers aren't getting raises, but their bosses are earning large salaries. According to an open records request made by the 10News I-Team, at least 21 San Diego county administrators' paychecks start at over $200,000 a year.

"The excess perks and salaries are embarrassing," said Sharon-Frances Moore of SEIU Local 221, which represents the 10,000 San Diego county employees who aren't managers.

"We're hoping the board of supervisors and administrators will do the right thing for San Diego and prevent as many layoffs as possible," said Moore.

Walter Ekard is the top earner in San Diego County. He works as chief administrative officer, earning $274,497.60 a year, as well as $21,959 in an investment plan and a $12,000 per year auto allowance, totaling $308,456.60 annually.
