Elderly Couple Hurt In South Bay Car Crash

A 77-year-old man and 79-year-old woman were injured Thursday when the car they were in veered off a South Bay street and struck six parked vehicles before crashing to a stop against a home.

The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m., when the man lost control of the vehicle while exiting a parking lot in the 200 block of Fourth Avenue in Chula Vista, according to police.

The car struck several automobiles parked on the east side of Glover Avenue, then veered around 180 degrees and re-entered the lot, where it again hit a vehicle, sending it crashing into yet another one, traffic Officer Christopher Fisher said.

The out-of-control car then struck a wooden fence before crashing into a house.

Medics took the driver to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of a broken arm, Fisher said. His passenger was taken to the same San Diego hospital for evaluation of chest pains.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation in the late afternoon.
