CHULA VISTA -- A young man was punched and robbed by alleged gang members outside a grocery store in Chula Vista early Thursday morning, police said.

The victim was walking out of the Vons Market on Otay Lakes Road, near Eastlake Parkway, shortly after midnight when a car with five people pulled up and two of the occupants got out, according to Chula Vista police.

The two men reportedly issued a gang challenge, then punched the victim before taking his Apple iPod, police said.

The two men got back in the car which sped away, police said, adding a patrol officer spotted the vehicle nearby a short time later and pulled it over following a brief chase.

Two men were arrested for the attack, police said. Their names were not available.
