A 24-year-old Navy man died overnight after his car rolled down an embankment and wrapped around a tree in Chula Vista, authorities said.

The unidentified victim, who lived in Coronado, was driving alone on eastbound Otay Lakes Road, near Wueste Road, when he lost control on a curve and crashed his 2001 Nissan Maxima around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner's office reported.

His name was withheld pending family notification.

The sailor was married and assigned to the USS Nimitz, according to the medical examiner's office.
