Man Accused Of East Village Stabbing Arrested

POSTED: 7:02 am PDT June 24, 2009

A 42-year-old man is behind bars Wedneday accused of stabbing another man in the abdomen in the East Village, a police sergeant said.

Bennie Rentie allegedly walked up to the victim, a 28-year-old man, while he was standing in the 900 block of Park Boulevard around 7 p.m. Tuesday and began yelling, San Diego police Sgt. Bob Dare said.

The attacker then stabbed the victim with a knife before running away, Dare said, adding the victim did not know his attacker.

Rentie was arrested nearby a short time later on a city bus and booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was taken to the hospital, according to Dare. His wounds did not appear life-threatening, said Dare.
