Mom Accused Of Serving Booze At Catholic School Toga Party

1 Teen Party Taken To Emergency Room

Dozens of high school students and plenty of alcohol, and the dangerous combination landed a popular student in the hospital and a Fallbrook mother behind bars, 10News reported.

Deborah Gibney, the mother who was arrested, told 10News over the phone that she didn't serve alcohol to the children.

10News obtained confirmed pictures of the toga party that took place last Tuesday night for students of Cathedral Catholic, a private school in Carmel Valley.

The pictures show teenagers holding beer and hard liquor. Authorities said a 17-year-old girl who was at the party was taken to the emergency room by her friends. The teen was intoxicated and semi-conscious, authorities said.

Detective Jim Pucillo of the San Diego Sheriff's Department said, "Some of the kids at the party allege Gibney delayed them from obtaining medical care for the highly intoxicated kid until she was forced to."

Pucillo also said, "There were about 60 young people inside the residence and another 40 on the grounds and inside vehicles."

Over the phone, Gibney told 10News she was unaware of any drinking and said the girl who was rushed to the hospital had an underlying medical condition.

Cathedral Catholic asks parents to sign a pledge that asks them to ensure that social events for students in their homes will be actively chaperoned and "free of alcohol, drugs and tobacco."

According to the school's Web site Deborah Gibney did not sign that pledge.

Gibney was arrested but posted bail. The sheriff's department recommended she be charged with child endangerment.
