FALLBROOK, Calif. -- A Fallbrook high school senior is facing felony charges for a series of road-rage incidents. Two victims came forward with partial license plate numbers but specific descriptions of the suspects vehicle, and the fact they were Colorado plates.A third victim got the entire plate, but, by then, detectives had zeroed in on Chad Barnett. They arrested him at Fallbrook High School.
Tuesday, he was facing a judge. It was the last day Barnett would be driving his dad's tricked-out Jeep with the off-road lights for awhile. That’s because, at his arraignment Tuesday, Judge Marshall Hockett ordered that Barnett not drive again while his case is pending.Barnett is accused of three road rage incidents in Fallbrook. One was caught on a surveillance camera in a McDonald's parking lot. A 65-year old man was behind the wheel of the other car.Detectives said another time Barnett drove his Jeep into man who'd gotten out of his car to confront him.And a 19-year old woman was a third victim.“She was chased but she was able to get away from him,” said Detective Dan Laibach of the Sheriff’s Department. His arrest was a hot topic on the Fallbrook Bonsall Village News website.“He sure picked a poor time in his life to be an idiot!” said one person. “He's 18 with his whole life ahead of him.”Said another: “These are all lies. I know him, and he got into some bad stuff one day and now certain people are out to get him.”Det. Laibach says Barnett was warned several times about speeding out of the parking lot at Fallbrook High. Now he faces three felony charges and a fourth being investigated.“He couldn't really give me a reason why he does it,” said Det. Laibach.
