SAN DIEGO -- Several business, an apartment building and a hotel in the Liberty Station area were without water Saturday when a nearby water main broke. The 16-inch cast iron water main break at the 4800 block of North Harbor Drive was first reported at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, said San Diego water department spokesman Arian Collins. There was no estimate as to when the water would be back on in the affected areas, Collins said. The reason for the break was unknown, he said.
Water supply was cut off to nearby businesses, an apartment building and the Holiday Inn, which has 237 rooms. Twelve hours after the problem was first reported, the hotel's manager said they still did not have water. A lane on the 4800 block of North Harbor Drive was also shut down on Saturday afternoon as emergency crews fixed the water main break, Collins said.
