Alleged Robber Caught Hiding In Dumpster

POSTED: 6:52 am PDT June 8, 2009

A man who allegedly hid in a trash bin after holding up an East County market is in custody Monday, along with his alleged getaway driver, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Quick Korner Market at 981 Greenfield Drive in unincorporated El Cajon was robbed shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday by a man who displayed a gun and demanded money, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Russell Shimmin said.

The gunman fled with an undetermined amount of cash and got into a vehicle that headed eastbound on Greenfield Drive before being spotted by a sheriff's deputy near the 1000 block of Broadway, according to the sergeant.

The vehicle stopped and the gunman fled on foot, Shimmin said, adding that the driver was arrested immediately while the gunman was located a short distance away in a Dumpster.

Their names were not immediately released.
