Man Pleads Not Guilty In Partner's Death

Jorge Munoz Accused In Strangling Death Of Pedro Ramirez

A man accused of strangling his gay partner in the victim's apartment in Normal Heights pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.

Jorge Luis Munoz, 24, was ordered held on $1 million bail.

He is accused of killing 36-year-old Pedro Ramirez, whose body was found in his bedroom shortly after midnight last Friday.

Authorities believe Ramirez invited the victim to his Cherokee Point apartment a day earlier, and the two spent a number of hours together before Munoz allegedly strangled Ramirez.

Deputy District Attorney Matthew Greco told Judge David Szumowski that phone records led authorities to the defendant, who was arrested Wednesday night at his home on Dwight Street.

Munoz faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. A status conference was scheduled for next Friday and a preliminary hearing for June 18.
