SAN DIEGO -- A 36-year-old man who may have been the victim of foul play was found dead in his bedroom at his Cherokee Point apartment early Friday, police said.

The man's friends and family reported the suspicious death at an apartment at 3843 38th St. at 12:33 a.m., according to San Diego police homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney.

They found the man's body after he failed to show up for work hours earlier, the lieutenant said.

The cause of death was not immediately clear, Rooney said, adding that the condition of the body suggested a slaying.

The county's medical examiner will have to examine the body before the case is ruled a homicide, he said. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

The man lived with a female roommate, who was cooperating with investigators, Rooney said.
