Nearly 3 Dozen Cited In Street Racing Crackdown

POSTED: 6:57 am PDT May 28, 2009

Nearly three dozen motorists were given citations in Chula Vista this week in connection with illegal street racing, police said Thursday.

On Wednesday, 32 citations were issued to drivers with illegal modifications to their vehicles during Operation Crack Down on Illegal Street Racing, Chula Vista police said.

Additionally, a vehicle was impounded because it had been driven recklessly -- at 105 miles per hour on Olympic Parkway -- and two others were impounded over driver's license issues, according to police.

Officers from San Diego, National City, Oceanside, Escondido, Ontario and the California Highway Patrol assisted Chula Vista police with the crackdown, along with San Diego County Sheriff's deputies. The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
