USS Reagan Deployment Delayed Until Thursday

SAN DIEGO -- The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan's scheduled deployment Wednesday was put off for 24 hours due to a maintenance issue, according to the Third Fleet's Naval Air Forces public affairs.The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier had been scheduled to leave San Diego Wednesday morning, along with five ships in its strike group, on a five-month deployment to the Western Pacific.The Reagan's departure is now set for Thursday morning.
The guided-missile cruiser Chancellorsville, frigate Thach and destroyers Decatur, Howard and Gridley departed as scheduled, according to Naval Surface Forces public affairs.According to the Navy, the repairs on the Reagan, which were described as minor, were scheduled to be completed today, but the ship won't leave until Thursday when the tides are more favorable.This is the Reagan Strike Group's fourth deployment in under four years.The Ronald Reagan, the ninth of 10 Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, arrived at its home port in Coronado in 2004.
