SAN DIEGO -- San Diego firefighters battled a small brushfire in the southern end of Tierrasanta Sunday, a dispatcher said.

The blaze broke out just before 10:30 near Santo Road and Ambrosia Drive, roughly between Interstate 15 and the Admiral Baker golf course, northeast of Qualcomm Stadium, said the dispatcher with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

About one acre had burned by the time firefighters made it to the scene.

Numerous firefighters and air attack units were called in to protect the huge La Mirage apartment complex and homes across the canyon in the Tierrasanta military housing community.

A cause of the fire was not immediately available.
