UPDATED: 6:49 am PDT May 19, 2009

San Diego police homicide detectives Tuesday are investigating a fatal shooting in Logan Heights that appears to have been gang-related.

Martin Omar De La Torre, 18, of San Diego was shot in the head in the 800 block of South 30th Street shortly before 6:15 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police homicide Lt. Terry McManus. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:25 p.m., he said.

"The shooting is believed to be gang-related. However, the specific motivation for the attack is not known at this time," the lieutenant said.

Moments prior to the shooting, witnesses saw De La Torre arguing with two other young Latinos, according to McManus.

The suspected shooter was between 18 and 20, with a "buzz cut" hairstyle, wearing a San Diego Padres baseball cap backward and a white T-shirt, McManus said. The second suspect about the same age, also had very short hair and wore a white T-shirt, he said.

"A vehicle possibly involved in the shooting was located by patrol officers shortly after the incident," McManus said. "It has been impounded for evidentiary purposes and will be examined at a later date."

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call SDPD homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
