Grandson Named Person Of Interest In Elderly Woman's Death

POSTED: 8:05 am PDT May 17, 2009
UPDATED: 9:52 pm PDT May 18, 2009

The grandson of a woman killed in her Alpine mobile home is being sought as a person of interest in the case, a sheriff's detective said.

Brandon Allen Hayes was identified "early on in the investigation" as someone detectives wanted to talk to regarding the death of Eunice Cothron, 73, whose body was discovered about 9 p.m. Saturday in her mobile home at 2400 Alpine Boulevard, Sgt. Roy Frank said.

Cothron was pronounced dead at the scene, and injuries on her body are consistent with a homicide, Frank said.

He would not reveal the nature of the injuries. An autopsy is pending.

Hayes, whose age is not available, might be traveling near the border with a companion, Jeffrey Carl Reed, according to Frank. He said Hayes did not live with his grandmother.

Hayes is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and 165 pounds. He has very short blond hair, a trim beard and is said to have some skin sores.

Reed is a 5-foot-2-inch white male, 180 pounds, with brown hair and facial acne.

Deputies asked anyone with more information about the whereabouts of Hayes or Reed to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
