Man Accused In Local Molestation Ring Extradited To U.S.

A 30-year-old man accused of paying a baby sitter to bring him children to molest was back in the United States Wednesday and awaited transport to San Diego after being deported from Brazil.

The U.S. State Department said that Jared Yaffe was caught Monday by Brazilian federal police and brought back to the United States on Tuesday. He was processed in Atlanta and was expected to arrive in California later this week.

Jared Yaffe is charged with multiple felony counts, including state charges of child sexual assault and kidnapping, and federal charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. If convicted, he faces more than 100 years to life in prison.

Yaffe quit his job and fled the country last October after San Diego police served a search warrant at this home in downtown San Diego and found numerous photos of children engaged in sex acts on his computer and cell phone, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

He went from the United States to Germany to Romania to Brazil, with which the United States has a formal extradition treaty, the newspaper reported.

On Friday, a Brazilian judge issued an order of arrest and deportation for Yaffe because he applied for the equivalent of a Social Security card, which violated the country's immigration laws, according to the Union-Tribune. Yaffe, accompanied by federal agents, arrived in Atlanta from Brazil on Tuesday.

In San Diego, Yaffe allegedly molested children in Santee and El Cajon. The children were supplied to Yaffe by baby sitter Aaron Zendejas, 24, police said.

Zendejas has pleaded not guilty to five felony charges, including kidnapping for oral copulation and lewd acts upon a child involving a 3-year- old boy. If convicted, he faces up to 42 years to life in prison.
