Encinitas Boy Riding Pocket Bike Struck By Car

POSTED: 6:50 am PDT May 7, 2009

An 11-year-old child is hospitalized Thursday with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Encinitas while riding an electric pocket bike, authorities said.

Witnesses said the child rode out a driveway into the path of the car in the 1000 block of Double LL Ranch Road around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Randy Webb.

The child was flown to Rady's Children's Hospital. Neither the child's name or medical condition were immediately released.

There was no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, Webb said.
