SAN DIEGO -- An autopsy is scheduled Friday for a 56-year-old man found dead on a sidewalk in downtown Ocean Beach.

The slaying was reported shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday by someone who ran into a service station and told a clerk that an injured man was lying in front of the nearby Ocean Beach Library, according to San Diego police.

Richard Swink, 56, was found dead on a sidewalk in the 1900 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, SDPD homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said. He had at least one stab wound, the lieutenant said.

Swink appeared to have been a transient, according to broadcast reports.
