UPDATED: 10:57 pm PDT April 20, 2009

The two men seen on surveillance video stealing a bronze pig from in front of Miguel's Restaurant in Chula Vista turned themselves in Monday afternoon, Chula Vista Police officials told 10News.

Both suspects came to Chula Vista Police headquarters to turn themselves in at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

According to police department spokesman, Bernard Gonzales, the two "wanted to clear up the matter and to have it behind them."

Gonzales told 10News the two stated that they "are addicted to drugs and needed money at the time."

Both claimed Monday that they have been sober for 2 weeks, Gonzales said.

Gonzales said the two felt too many people who knew them saw the video of the theft, shown on 10News, that had been recorded by an ATM machine's security camera.

According to police, suspect #1 is Oren Hertz, 34, of San Ysidro. A self-employed boat detailer, Hertz is charged with grand theft of the bronze pig and conspiracy.

Gonzales said Hertz was staying in a stolen travel trailer and will also be charged with auto theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Suspect #2 was identified as Armando Cesena, 35, of Chula Vista. Unemployed, Cesena is also charged with grand theft and conspiracy.

Both suspects were taken to county jail.
