One Killed In Suspected DUI Crash

VISTA, Calif. -- The passenger in a vehicle that flew off a surface street and landed in the westbound lanes of Highway 78 died early Saturday, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and gross vehicular manslaughter, authorities said. Authorities came upon the crashed vehicle at about 11:30 p.m. Friday just west of Melrose Drive and found that the vehicle had come from the area of West Vista Way and Santa Clara Drive, Sgt. Clayton Lisk said. Lorenzo Gabriel-Lopez-Gonzalez, a 45-year-old married father from Oceanside, was thrown from the car and died about 45 minutes after the crash, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. The driver, Jesus Alonzo, 26, was treated for injuries at a hospital and then arrested, Lisk said.
