LAKESIDE, Calif. -- A 9-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle near Riverview Elementary School later died, the Medical Examiner's Office said Thursday.

The boy was walking along Winter Gardens Boulevard south of Knoll Crest Place around 4 p.m Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Paramedics transported the boy to Rady Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to the report.

The boy's name was not immediately released.
