SAN DIEGO -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the San Diego Food Bank Wednesday to encourage Californians hit hard by the economic downturn to take advantage of available federal resources. After touring the food bank, the governor touted the "WE Connect Campaign," which was created by his wife Maria Shriver to help connect the state's working families to programs and resources. At www.weconnect.net, those in need can quickly access information about federal tax credits, food programs, housing assistance, health care, finding a job, education and where to get free tax preparation.
"These are tough times for people across our great state," Schwarzenegger said. "Families across this country are struggling and stretching every dollar to make ends meet."The global crisis is hitting workers from all segments of society, many of whom never dreamed they'd be in such a dire situation," he said. "Through WE Connect, we have connected over 10 million Californians and their families to many great programs to help them push through these dark nights, until the brighter days come along."Other states taking part in the campaign include Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and New York.
