Husband Arrested For Violent Behavior

Authorities released the name Friday of a woman found slain inside her Talmadge apartment, allegedly at the hands of her husband.

San Diego police found the body of Brenda Martin-Taylor, 58, in the couple's residence in the 4400 block of 47th Street on Thursday morning, shortly after arresting her spouse in front of the apartment complex.

Martin-Taylor died of blunt-impact injuries to her head, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Officers went to the couple's residence about 5:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a violent disturbance there.

"Officers arrived to find the second-story windows of (the) apartment completely shattered, with a number of personal items strewn on the ground below," SDPD homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said.

A man then walked out of the residence, approached the officers with clenched fists and made some unintelligible comments, according to Rooney.

"The suspect ignored their commands to stop and continued towards them," the lieutenant said. "In quick succession, pepper spray, beanbag-shotgun rounds, a Taser and physical force were used to subdue the suspect."

Officers were then able to restrain the 63-year-old man. He was taken to a trauma center, where he underwent surgery for injuries sustained during his arrest.

Police have refused to publicly identify the suspect or disclose the nature of the wounds he suffered.

The man will be booked on suspicion of murder once he is released from the hospital, Rooney said.
