VISTA, Calif. -- Fifteen City of Vista employees have lost their jobs in the second-round of layoffs so far this calendar year, it was reported Wednesday.Assistant City Manager Patrick Johnson said the North County city sent 15 employees layoff notices early this week, The North County Times reported. In January, Vista laid off 14 city employees.Among the 15 employees laid off this week were park maintenance workers and fire inspectors, according to the Times. The latest round of layoffs should save Vista about $910,000 in the fiscal year starting July 1, the newspaper reported."It obviously wasn't something we wanted to do, but something that was necessary to get to a balanced budget," Johnson told the Times.Like most cities, Vista is looking to cut spending from its upcoming budget because of reduced sales tax revenues caused by the state of the economy. The city's unemployment rate is at 9.5 percent, up 3.6 percent from last March, and sales tax revenue is expected to tumble 6.8 percent this fiscal year, according to the Times.Vista's current estimated budget for the upcoming fiscal year is at $72.6 million, and officials are still looking to cut about $1 million, the Times reported.
