Man Killed By Truck When He Ran From Law ID'd

LAKESIDE, Calif. -- Authorities Tuesday released the name of a 43-year-old drunken driving suspect who was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Lakeside after he ditched his car and attempted to run from law enforcement.Juan Manual Sanz of San Diego was struck while attempting to cross state Route 67 at Vigilante Road shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.He died from his injuries at Sharp Memorial Hospital at 1:55 p.m. Monday, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.According to the California Highway Patrol, an officer in his patrol vehicle attempted to stop a Cadillac being driven erratically on state Route 67, south of Mapleview Street, around 9 p.m. Sunday.Sanz, the driver, slowed a bit, then took off northbound with the patrol vehicle in pursuit, the CHP reported.The chase continued on state Route 67 at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, according to the CHP. It ended at Vigilante Road, with Sanz ditching his car and attempting to flee on foot before being struck by a southbound pickup truck, according to the CHP.A unidentified 39-year-old woman in Sanz's vehicle was arrested at the scene, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune, which also reported that drugs were found inside the Cadillac.
