Racing Blamed For Ramona Crash That Killed Mother, 25

UPDATED: 4:44 pm PDT March 31, 2009

Street racing may have caused a crash which killed a 25-year-old mother in Ramona, 10News reporter Jennifer Jensen reported.

Alexandria Drake, a long-time Ramona resident who had just given birth to her first child four weeks ago, was driving westbound on Highway 67 to spend the day with her mother in Fashion Valley when the driver of a gold Jaguar hit her head-on, Jensen reported.

The crash, which occurred on Sunday at around 11:15 a.m. on Highway 67 near Quail Rock, just east of Archie Moore Road, was seen by Drake's mother, who was driving in the car in front of her.

Earlier reports indicated that the Jaguar was speeding to pass a white Mercedes, but a California Highway Patrol spokesperson has since confirmed that at least two credible witnesses watched the Jaguar speed in excess of 100 miles per hour to pass a white BMW when it crashed into the young woman's vehicle.

The crash shut down Highway 67 for hours. Drake was taken by air ambulance to Palomar Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Drake’s four-week-old son Jayden, who was in his car seat in the back of the car, was not injured in the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash or the white BMW, is being asked to call the CHP.
