SAN DIEGO - San Diego police arrested 19 people on suspicion of drunken driving at a downtown checkpoint that wrapped up early Sunday.
Police set up in the 1500 block of First Avenue and started screening drivers about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Officer Mark McCullough said.
Eighteen vehicles were impounded and could be held for as long as 30 days
Police screened 836 of 1,397 drivers and arrested 19, he said.
