SAN DIEGO -- An attempted bank robbery was foiled by a teller who refused to hand over any money, authorities said Wednesday. The abortive heist occurred at a Citibank branch at 755 Broadway Circle in the Horton Plaza area around 3:45 p.m. Monday, the San Diego Police Department reported. The would-be robber, who wore sunglasses, entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money, said police Sgt. Ray Battrick.
The teller refused to comply, sending the man fleeing, he said. The bandit was described as a white male, about 5 feet 4 inches, weighing between 160 and 170 pounds, wearing jeans and a silver T-shirt.He never displayed a weapon, Battrick said, adding that he may have been the same person who attempted to rob a Washington Mutual Bank branch at 1415 India St. a few minutes earlier. The department's Robbery Division is investigating the attempted heists, he said.
