Bonita Man ID'd As Barrett Junction Crash Victim

POSTED: 7:04 am PDT March 16, 2009

A motorcyclist who died after his bike went over the side of Highway 94 in Barrett Junction was identified Monday as a 59-year-old Bonita man.

Charles Thomas Omelina crashed his bike just west of Tecate shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

He was riding in a pack with several other bikers when he lost control at a high rate of speed and went down an embankment, the Medical Examiner's Office.

A Cal Fire dispatcher said a medical helicopter was called in, but Omelina died at the scene before he could be transported to the hospital.

Omelina was divorced and lived alone in Bonita, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.
