UPDATED: 11:43 am PST March 5, 2009

Two masked men armed with a semi-automatic handgun robbed a sushi restaurant in northern Clairemont, police said Thursday.

The robbery at Sake Sushi, 5430 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., occurred around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police Sgt. Alan Hayward.

The thieves entered the restaurant and ordered customers to get down, before taking off with a woman's purse and cash from the restaurant's register, Hayward said.

The duo fled in a stolen red Honda Element, which was later abandoned at 5300 Conrad St., Hayward said.

Police described the robbers as two white males in their 20s. One was about 5 feet 3, while the other was about 5 feet 2, police said.

Both suspects reportedly wore sunglasses and masks.

One held a silver semi-automatic handgun, according to police. Anyone with information on this robbery is asked to call the San Diego police.
