Chula Vista Instructional Aide Accused Of Molesting Girl

CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- A Chula Vista Elementary School District teacher's aide was in custody Thursday on suspicion of child molestation.Vincent Matthew Lopez, 46, was arrested last weekend at a home in the Otay Ranch neighborhood, according to Chula Vista police.Officers went to the residence early Sunday morning after receiving a call from a teenage girl who alleged that Lopez, a relative, had sexually assaulted her.
Lopez, a part-time employee of the school district, was booked into George Bailey Detention Facility on suspicion of multiple counts of lewd acts with a child. He made his first court appearance in the case on Wednesday.Upon getting word of the allegations on Monday, the man's employers put him on administrative leave. There were no indications that any of the alleged assaults occurred at the campuses -- including Halecrest and Tiffany elementary schools -- where Lopez has worked, according to district officials.Lopez remained in custody Thursday afternoon in lieu of $350,000 bail.
