SAN DIEGO -- A report released by Cal/OSHA details the circumstances that lead to the collapse of an East Village walkway, 10News reported.10News obtained the report after continuing to press Cal/OSHA for details. The report blames Paramount Scaffolding for the walkway collapse that injured 16 people. It said the company was negligent, and the company is being fined $10,000.
The walkway, located on Imperial Avenue, collapsed hard and fast, and was caught on surveillance tape.Last week, Tyrone Allen died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the incident. After a 5-month investigation, Cal/OSHA cited Paramount Scaffolding for two very serious violations, 10News reported. The report stated the company exposed its employees to the risk of injury by stockpiling scaffolding planks and metal frames. It also claimed workers leaned planks on the walkway, causing it to cave in.According to Cal/OSHA's report, a crane operator spotted the distressed walkway and reported it to the company."According to the report, the operator got no response from them and they did nothing to resolve the issue. And 30 minutes later it collapsed," said Todd Neal, Allen's attorney.Allen, a father of three children, was buried on Monday.Neal said he plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit.10News contacted Paramount Scaffolding for comment, but the request was denied.
