SAN DIEGO -- A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty Thursday to raping a woman at knifepoint during a burglary in her College-area home just days after being released from Juvenile Hall.

Chadrick Robertson faces 25 years to life in prison at a sentencing May 8 before Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Fraser.

Robertson, who was prosecuted as an adult, could have faced up to 106 years to life behind bars if convicted at trial of nine felony charges, including false imprisonment.

The defendant pleaded guilty on the day his preliminary hearing was to begin. Deputy District Attorney Patrick Espinoza said it was a good resolution for all involved.

"The victim in this case (also) wanted to resolve the case early," the prosecutor said outside court.

The defendant was arrested last Aug. 18 during a traffic stop. Investigators identified him as the rapist based on DNA evidence and a description given by the 47-year-old victim.

The youth climbed through an unlocked window of a home on 67th Street near El Cajon Boulevard about 4 a.m. last Aug. 13, apparently planning to commit a burglary, according to San Diego police.

With a knife in hand, the intruder demanded money from the victim. When she said she had none, her assailant raped her, police said.

During the sexual assault, the victim cut her assailant with a drinking glass and he in turn hit her with a glass, causing her to bleed profusely, Espinoza said.

He said the victim was bleeding so badly during the hour-long attack that she begged Robertson to let her go to hospital, which he finally did.

DNA evidence found on a cigarette at the scene matched a sample taken from the teen when he was convicted of robbery in 2007, the prosecutor said.

Police said Robertson has an extensive arrest background and was released from Juvenile Hall last Aug. 8.
