LA MESA, Calif. -- California Highway Patrol investigators said two people were killed in a crash involving a Ryder moving truck and 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on eastbound Interstate 8 in La Mesa Thursday night.CHP Officer Brian Pennings told 10News the incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. near the Baltimore Drive ramp on I-8.The CHP said 32-year-old Solomon Henderson was driving the moving truck westbound on I-8 when he was cut off by a maroon/dark red Nissan Sentra, veered across all of the westbound lanes and smashed through the center divide into the eastbound lanes. The moving truck then crashed into the pickup truck, the CHP said.
Henderson was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. The 32-year-old driver of the pickup truck, Jorge Flores, was from El Cajon and died at the scene, dispatchers said.According to the CHP, 50 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled and hazmat crews were sent to the scene to clean it up. Debris from the crash caused several other minor collisions. The two left lanes of both the east and westbound lanes of the freeway remained closed during the clean up and investigation, but a portion of the freeway opened Friday morning, authorities said.
