SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is considering raising fares and cutting services to offset a projected $14 million drop in transit funding from the state, it was announced Monday.Changes could include eliminating, restructuring, reducing frequency or shortening the hours of operation on routes and possibly eliminating some weekend service, MTS officials said.According to the MTS, the service reductions would be designed to impact as few passengers as possible, but the majority of the transit agency's routes would be changed in some way.The MTS has scheduled a series of public meetings on the budget gap and possible service changes. The first two meetings will be held on Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at the UTC Transit Center in University City and at the H Street Trolley Station in Chula Vista, according to the MTS.
