Hillcrest House Fire Caused By Floor Heater

A floor heater sparked a fire that caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to a Hillcrest home and displaced three people Tuesday, authorities reported.

The non-injury blaze in the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue erupted about 7 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews had the flames fully extinguished within 25 minutes, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.

Investigators determined that the single-story house caught fire after a space heater ignited something placed too close to it, Swanson said.

American Red Cross personnel were called in to help the residents secure interim lodging.

Authorities set the monetary losses at $80,000 to the structure and $20,000 to contents.
