SAN DIEGO -- Signs celebrating the San Diego Chargers' success in reaching the playoffs were hung Wednesday outside City Hall and the County Administration Center. Two 40-foot-tall lighting bolts were installed on City Hall, according to Mayor Jerry Sanders' office. The bolts will be illuminated every night through the remainder of the Chargers' season. The bolts, made by a retired city employee, had been in storage since the Chargers' 1994-95 playoff run, when the team made it to the Super Bowl.
A 40- by 20-foot sign that reads "Go Bolts" was also displayed on the County Administration Center. The county has hung the banner each time the Chargers reach the playoffs. The Chargers overcame a 4-8 start to the season to reach the playoffs. The team beat the Indianapolis Colts in the first round last week. They now heads to chilly Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers on Sunday.
