Oceanside Police Investigate Toddler's Death

POSTED: 4:59 pm PST January 5, 2009
UPDATED: 5:01 pm PST January 5, 2009

Oceanside police detectives are investigating the death of a toddler and an injury to another baby to see if those cases involved abuse, an officer said Monday.

A 2-year-old boy was found dead just after 9 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 500 block of Mesa Breeze Way, Officer Kim Rainwater said.

The child was put to bed the night before and failed to wake up in the morning, Rainwater said.

The boy's body had no obvious signs of trauma, but detectives are investigating his death as suspicious and are awaiting autopsy results, the detective said.

Rainwater also said that a 4-month-old girl was taken by her mother and grandmother to Tri-City Hospital on Friday with a broken leg. Investigators were looking into how the injury occurred, she said.

Rainwater said no arrests have been made in either case.
