Detectives Thursday investigated the shooting death of a Mexican national found in a parked car, a Chula Vista police lieutenant said.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was found around 1:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Smoky Circle near Hidden Vista Drive in the Rancho del Rey section of town, just east of the 805 Freeway, Lt. Tro Peltekian said.

The victim, who was shot several times, was slumped in a white Honda Accord with Baja California license plates, Peltekian said.

A passenger door was open and shell cases were found on the ground, police said.

The man's name has not been released, pending notification of relative, Peltekian said.
