MTS Announces Bus Fare Increases

POSTED: 1:48 pm PST December 30, 2008
UPDATED: 1:55 pm PST December 30, 2008

Starting Thursday, one-way fares on Metropolitan Transit System buses will go up a quarter to $2.25, it was announced Tuesday.

Monthly passes for adults will increase from $64 to $68, youth monthly passes will rise $2 to $34, and monthly passes for seniors, the disabled and those on Medicare will increase from $16 to $17, according to MTS.

Regional day passes will remain at $5 for most MTS buses and trolleys.

Similar fare increases took effect last January.

According to the MTS, the increases are needed to close a budget gap caused by reduced sales tax revenue and a drop in the amount of money allocated by the state for public transportation.
