Sheriff: Teen Kidnapped After Helping Man Move

POSTED: 8:09 am PST December 19, 2008
UPDATED: 9:53 am PST December 19, 2008

A 45-year-old man kidnapped an 18-year-old man at gunpoint in Spring Valley and drove him to a remote location in Jamul, where the victim escaped, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said Friday.

The victim, Eduardo Reyes, told investigators he met Michael Promesso at the Self Storage lot at 2550 Folex Way around 5 p.m. Thursday to collect money for moving Promesso's belongings, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Greg Hampton said.

An argument ensued when Promesso accused Reyes of stealing some items, Hampton said.

Promesso allegedly produced a gun and ordered Reyes to drive them to a remote location in Jamul. Once there, Reyes escaped after Promesso attempted to switch places in the vehicle, Hampton said

Reyes flagged down a passing motorist and reported the alleged abduction. His vehicle was later found at the Self Storage lot, Hampton said.

There were no immediate arrests, but an investigation was under way.
