Body Washes Ashore In Imperial Beach

POSTED: 11:03 am PST December 16, 2008
UPDATED: 4:16 am PST December 17, 2008

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Wednesday on the body of a young man found on a beach near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.

A pedestrian discovered the dead man near Seacoast Drive and Descanso Avenue in southern Imperial Beach about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Anthony Ray said.

The corpse may have washed ashore, Ray said. The deceased man appeared to have been between 18 and 25 years old, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

During a downpour Monday, a man apparently trying to cross into the United States from Mexico was pulled from the Tijuana River, and two others seen in the waterway were taken into custody by the Border Patrol, authorities said.

Authorities did not immediately comment on whether the body discovered Tuesday may be connected to Monday's rescues.
