SAN DIEGO -- California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer have called for a swift investigation and explanation of a jet fighter crash that killed four family members in a San Diego neighborhood. In a joint statement Wednesday, the two senators also urged the Marines Corps to review its fleet of F/A18-D Hornet jets after the crash that killed a woman, her two young daughters and their grandmother. The senators say early reports suggest the jet suffered catastrophic engine failure as it prepared to make an emergency landing Monday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Two homes were destroyed in the fiery crash and three were damaged. They say the review of the entire fleet would help ensure that other jets don't have similar problems.
