UPDATED: 5:21 pm PST November 14, 2008

A retired agent with the FBI's San Diego office was in custody in Nevada Friday on suspicion of bludgeoning a woman to death at a Las Vegas home.

Officers responding to a report of an assault with a hammer found a dead woman in the garage of a residence on Ashley Park Avenue shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The woman appeared to have suffered multiple blunt-force wounds to her head and face, Lt. Lew Roberts said.

Also present at the scene was 61-year-old Edward A. Preciado-Nuno, who was questioned and arrested on suspicion of murder, Roberts said.

The deceased woman's name was withheld pending notification of her family.

The San Diego office of the FBI confirmed Preciado-Nuno's previous employment with the agency.
