Children's Hospital Receives $10 Million Gift

SAN DIEGO -- Rady Children's Hospital received a $10 million gift to support cancer and blood disorder programs at the hospital's new Patient Care Pavilion, it was announced Monday.The donation will be used to establish the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders."This new advanced facility will allow us to pursue our goal of offering clinical trials to treat nearly every type of cancer that occurs in childhood," said Dr. William Roberts, director of hematology and oncology at Rady Children's Hospital.
"We will have the ability to provide therapeutic care for children with blood disorders and be on the leading edge of innovations in surgery, radiation therapy, immune therapy and chemotherapy," he said.Lisa and Michael Peckham, whose son was diagnosed with cancer in 1994, are both involved at Rady Children's Hospital.Lisa Peckham founded a parent liaison program at the hospital and later an organization that provides support to families of children with cancer. Michael Peckham is a trustee of the Rady Children's Hospital Foundation.
