A young woman was assaulted and possibly raped in an apartment building close to the University of California, San Diego campus Friday afternoon, police reported.

The victim called police from the 9200 block of Regents Road around 4 p.m. to say she was confronted by a man as she entered the building, San Diego police Officer James Johnson said.

Reports that the woman was bound with duct tape were being investigated by detectives with the Sex Crimes Unit, Johnson said.

It was unclear whether she was a UCSD student.
