Authorities: ATM Stolen From Liquor Store

POSTED: 11:06 am PST November 7, 2008
UPDATED: 6:54 pm PST November 7, 2008

Three thieves Friday pried an automated teller machine from its foundation at a liquor store in Spring Valley and fled with it in a pickup truck, authorities said.

The theft at Rancho San Diego Liquor at 2782 Sweetwater Springs Blvd. occurred around 1:45 a.m., San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Greg Hampton said.

It was not immediately clear how the thieves were able to lift the ATM from its foundation, but that may yet come to light since the theft was captured on surveillance video, Hampton said.

The tape shows the thieves backed into the store's glass front doors with their pickup truck, shattering them, then took the ATM and sped away, Hampton said.

The thieves fled in a gray four-door Dodge truck, last seen headed westbound on Austin Drive, Hampton said.

The exact loss was not immediately known.
