SAN DIEGO -- A man found dead behind a house that was destroyed by an explosion and fire near Poway was identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office Sunday as Joseph Wayel Nesheiwat. The 24-year-old man was in the back yard of a house in the 16400 block of North Woodson Drive, northeast of Poway, after a blast and resulting fire that broke out around 1:30 a.m. Friday. An autopsy determined that Nesheiwat died of second- and third-degree burns and smoke inhalation. Firefighters about a mile away heard the explosion at their fire station. The blast tore off the 4,000-square-foot home's garage doors and broke windows at a next-door residence. It took crews more than an hour to fully control the blaze. The residence was a rental property that had no tenants and was supposed to have been vacant, authorities said. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department's Bomb-Arson Unit spent Friday and Saturday at the scene trying to pin down the cause of the explosion and fire, but no report was available.
